I remember Willie once took me to high school with him for the day, and the only class I remember was Art.

I remember once when we were still on the Springwater place Hazel took me to high school with her, and everyone including the teachers gushed over me all day -- I was truly the center of attention.
I remember it was my Dad's responsibility to keep the ice trays filled in the freezer.

I remember attending a performance of The Nutcracker with Denise in December 1993 at Wartburg, and neither of us realized it was a ballet until the curtain went up.

I remember giving a $2 bill to a young clerk in a store, and she wouldn't accept it until her supervisor told her it was legitimate money.

I remember Danielle's ex Brendan telling me that once when he was busking with his harp on State Street on a hot day, some prankster kids gave him a Coke that sprayed all over him when opened.

I remember how much fun it was watching Mark and Danielle chase after bubbles. (Sorry, DP! I don't remember you doing that.)

I remember when walking Mulberry Hollow road one of our exciting pastimes was finding and throwing rocks at wasp nests -- more than once we wound up with a sting near the eye and had it swollen shut several days.

I remember using a typewriter in my early teens to create a card catalog for my collection of 45's and LP records, and also to create weekly lists of the top 40 songs according to Casey Kasem.

I remember Charlie and I got some of our play stuff from a dump along side of Y hill road about a half mile from our Mulberry Hollow farm, and we also played in the creek, played with homemade cars and trucks, and made a brush fort out in the woods.

I remember my brother Charlie and I made metal hoop runners out of a board and old tin can and ran them along the yard or driveway -- the round metal hoops came from old wagon wheel hubs or old play wagons.

Wednesday, December 11, 2024

I remember my brother Charlie made me a beany flip (slingshot) out of a tree sapling, since he had a hunting knife and was skilled at carving.

I remember that Aunt Bertie wrote beautiful poetry -- usually related to her faith or to nature.

Saturday, December 7, 2024

I remember many of my Friday evening suppers in high school consisted of two cheeseburgers with mustard (thanks Mom), nacho cheese Doritos, and Dr. Pepper with ice in a large plastic cup with some NBA player on it that we'd probably gotten from McDonald's, all eaten in the living room while watching TV.

I remember that Dad's Aunt Bertie had a marvelous memory for dates -- sometimes telling us the exact day and year that certain things happened in their family.
